The Flagler County Monday Night Rag Chewer's Net
Current Operation
The club operates a regular two meter voice net at 6:30 PM each Monday night. The Net is open to any licensed amateur and we welcome all listeners.
Net History
In the year 2001,the Flagler Palm Coast Amateur Radio Club recognized the need for a local two meter net in the Flagler County area. To that point, no local net existed for the sole purpose of allowing area hams to share information, ham talk, swap and shop, practice communication skills, and training. In September 2001, the club established the rag chewer's net and opened it to any ham operator within the sound of the repeater.
The first few months of operation were somewhat ambitious, with the net operating a schedule of four nights per week. This schedule allowed the club to fine tune the net operations and to determine the best days and times to be compatible with the desires of the local hams. From the start, the club has been deeply grateful to Tim WA3QCV, who has supported us with the use of his repeater. Later to join and link repeaters is Davis W4FKD.
As experience and knowledge were gained in the operation of the Net, the days of operation were decreased to the current schedule of one day per week. This schedule, particularly during the summer months, appears to best suit the needs of those who check into the net on a regular basis. Although, the Net was started primarily to serve the needs of the Flagler County Hams, the number of check-ins of Hams traveling through the area, snowbirds, and Hams in neighboring counties that are regular callers, has been most gratifying. Our club membership has also benefited in that we have gained members as a result of some check-ins.
What do we talk about on the net? Well, that could be just about anything at all. Although the net has a net controller to maintain a degree of order, the net encourages the check-in stations to bring up their subject of discussion for the evening. From airplanes to zoo's, both Ham related and not Ham related, the topics are always interesting, informative and best of all they are FUN.
The Club wishes to express their sincere thanks to Tim WA3QCV and Davis W4FKD for the use of their repeaters, to the Net Control Operators and to the many check-in stations that made the net the success that it is.
